Pixma MG5420

Canon Pixma MG5420 Series - Pixma MG5420 Wireless Photo all-in-One Printer starts basically the same powers, including a better than average text quality for inkjet multi-function printer (MFP), and then build on them to provide substantially more capable printers just a little more money. In particular, provide better quality photos as well as the ability to print on optical disc. The combination of text, plus a superb high quality, making it suitable for a Home Office, home, or both.

Like the Pixma MG4220, MG5420 type is best understood as a home-oriented MFP can also work for light-duty use in a Home Office. but it does not have some features of Office-centric importance, with the ability to Fax does not exist and there is no automatic document feeder (ADF), which means the letter-size flatbed set a limit for the maximum size of paper for scanning. It also has no cable network support, provides only for the Wi-Fi network connection.

The basic feature of MFP is limited to print, scan and copy. Additional features include scanning directly into or print from a memory card, including direct printing from a memory card to the optical disc can be printed. You can also preview the pictures on the memory card with a 1.9-inch color screen before printing.

Paper handling is relatively low. 125-sheet input capacity of little more than provide MG4220, but still suitable only for use in light-duty even in the Home Office. One small plus is a second tray for photos, that can hold up to 20 sheets of 4 by 6 photo paper to let you print photos without having to swap out the paper in the tray. Also very much on the plus side the built-in duplexer (for two-sided printing), who also worked for two-sided copying. With the ADF, but not putting as well as flipping the page on the flatbed is a rigorous task manually.

Setup & speed
I ran the test I used a USB connection to a system running Windows Vista. Setup is standard, but with one disturbing choked up. The printer refused to print an alignment page automatically the first two times I tried, unhelpful error code displays on the front panel LCD as well as telling me to try again. After I turned the printer off, then on again, the alignment page is printed, and I'm not there is another matter. I would be much more comfortable with this issue in the error message has told me something useful. But once I got past the setup, it all works pretty well.

The best that can be said for speed MG5420 that do not slow enough to count as a serious problem. I timed a printer in our business applications suite (using QualityLogic's hardware and software also for time) at 2.5 effective Pages per minute (ppm).

That makes it a little bit faster than MG4220, ppm 2.1, but especially more slowly than the price of the same editor options Epson workforce WF-3520 4.4 ppm as well as editor's choice the Brother MFC-J825DW 4.0-ppm. Also helpful is that it is better to print photo speed. 1 minute 4 second average to 4 by 6 made a few seconds faster per photo of WF-3520 and also almost running faster than the MFC-J825DW.

The other issue & quality
Anything that MG5420 loses to speed, it makes up for with the quality of the output which is easily above par overall, to the quality of the graphics are typical for inkjet MFP and also mainly text and also the photo quality is better than most. The edges on the text characters are not sharp enough as you would get from a laser, but the text is much more easily readable at small font size of text than most inkjets, and also easily good enough for business use of desktop publishing.

The graphics quality was at the high end of the range where most inkjet MFP fell, making it easily good enough for internal business use, including PowerPoint handouts. Depending on how much the perfectionist, you may consider suitable for the output will be important clients or customers. Photo quality particularly better than most inkjet MFP can be provided, and better than you will get from many drug store photos.
